The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Truly, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. There are so many things that the spirit is willing to do but the flesh is just too weak to carry them out.

When we talk about spiritual laziness, it is not about sleeping all day without doing anything tangible. Spiritual laziness is a sinful act, procrastination, worry and anxiety, inability to study and pray and many others. Procrastination is a big disease. You keep postponing the time for prayer just because the flesh is not ready to indulge in prayer activity yet. You are too weak to fight and overcome sin.

Anxiety, worry and fear are also big signs of spiritual laziness. God has instructed that we should be worry for nothing but in everything through prayers, supplications and thanksgiving, our request should be made known to God. However, when you are suffering from spiritual laziness, you will find it very difficult to overcome fear, worry and anxiety.

Admittedly, many believers have struggled to overcome spiritual laziness. It takes more than the ability to pray fervently to overcome this spirit. When you follow these tips, you will be able to overcome the spirit of laziness completely.

5 Tips To Overcome Spiritual Laziness

Grow In The Word

1st Pet 2:2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

The word of God is our means to liberation from spiritual laziness. The scripture has in abundance the spiritual manual for our lives and how we should live as believers. Remember the scripture tells us, although we are from the world we are not of the world. We are God’s people, our life is quite different from that of others.

When a man is newly converted, he begins to grow in the things of God. One of the things he must improve is his knowledge of the word. Growing in the knowledge of the word means we do everything commanded by the word. The word of God teaches us to defend ourselves from spiritual laziness. The word of God is the daily manual of our lives teaching us what to do and when to do them.

Seek More Invasion of Holy Ghost

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

There are so many godly activities you want to do but the flesh is too weak to do them. Take, for instance, sin. Often than not, when we are about to indulge in a sinful activity, the spirit of God tells us not to do them. However, the flesh is too strong to obey. When the spirit God comes upon us, it will quicken our mortal body.

When the mortal body is quickened, it gathers strength to overcome sin.

The Fear God

Proverb 9:10 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

To overcome spiritual laziness you need the fear of the lord. And the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Joseph was able to overcome the temptation of sexual sin with his master’s wife because he feared the Lord. He stated, how will I do this great evil to my boss and sin against God?

The fear of the Lord will help us to do everything the Lord commanded. The fear of the Lord will incline our heart unto righteousness, it will motivate our spirit to be more defensive through prayers and study of the word. When we have the fear of God, our spirit man will be strengthened to do everything that pertains to righteousness.

See Spiritual Activities as Though You Work For God

Colossians 3:23:24 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

Another way to overcome spiritual laziness is by taking spiritual activities like you are working for God. This might not be too effective if you don’t have the fear of God. As it is peculiar to working in a corporate organization that you always want to discharge your duty effectively, it is also the same with working for God.

Take spiritual things as though you are working for God and expecting a reward from Him. When you do this, it increases your pace to do things. Spiritual things will no longer look like a heavy task or impossible thing to do, having known that you are working for a reward.

Ask God For Help

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such, there is no law.

The scripture says by strength shall no man prevail. When you have struggled to overcome spiritual laziness but you can just get over it, there is no better time to ask God for help. The power of help is available to help us. The book of Galatians stated that the fruit of the spirit includes, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, self-control and others.
